SAS Braathens Partners
In addition to SAS' involvement in the multilateral cooperation within Star Alliance, SAS has since 1996 had a strategic alliance with Lufthansa. The cooperation is based on a joint venture involving, in addition joint market activities, the two airlines' operations between Scandinavia and Germany. By coordinating routes, timetables and capacity, SAS and Lufhansa can together offer a comprehensive and travel-efficient route network, not only between Scandinavia and Germany but even to the rest of the world.

SAS also co-operates with a number of selected airlines, which serve more regional markets of interest to SAS and its customers. Our partners in the Baltic region are airBaltic and Estonian Air, both being affiliated airlines of the SAS Group. Further, cooperation exists with Icelandair, and Skyways in Sweden.

The Star Alliance network
SAS is one of the founding airlines of Star Alliance, launched on 14 May 1997 as the first truly global airline alliance offering its customers convenient global access, a seamless travel experience, and worldwide status and privileges. Today, the 15 members are: Air Canada, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, bmi, LOT Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, Scandinavian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Spanair, Thai Airways International, United, US Airways and VARIG Brazilian Airlines.

As of 15 December 2004, Star Alliance also includes three new Regional Members: Blue1, of the SAS Group, Adria Airways and Croatia Airlines. Further, TAP Air Portugal is scheduled to join Star Alliance by mid March 2005, and South African Airways later in the year. Together, the member airlines carry over 355 million passengers per year, to/from more than 772 destinations in 133 countries.
