Coastal Museum in Oygarden

The Coastal Museum in Oygarden is situated on the old steamship pier in Ovaagen. The museum shows the knowledge of how the people of Oygarden have used the nature around them to create themselves a livelihood and create this community. The museum will facilitate the visitors to learn about this history through exhibitions, film display, guided tours and bike trips.

The main exhibition “Sea and wind – Earth and Fire” shows how the coastal people have used nature and its resources differently over thousands of years. As visitors get the knowledge of how different communities have grow up in Oygarden, and how daily life in this harsh weather district of the western coast has changed through the ages.
