Mareminehullet is the cave where Niels Klim’s subterranean journey started according the Ludvig Holberg story. The story “Niels Klim’s subterranean journey” or in Norwegian “Niels Klim’s underjordiske reise” was written in 1741. Mareminehullet is based on the Danish word mareminde meaning witch or mermaid, hullet meaning hole or cave. Accoding a legend, once upon a time a witch or a mermaid lived in the cave.
