Bergen was founded by Olav Kyrre. The year of the foundation is estimated to be 1070. This sculpture is made by Knut Steen (1924-). Presented first time in 1998. Located by Lille Lungegaardsvann, in front of the Library.

Olav III Haraldsson Kyrre (d.1093), nicknamed Olav the Quiet or Olav the Peaceful was the king of Norway from 1067 until his death in 1093.
