Permanent exhibitions: «People and Posessions». Arts, crafts, and design during 500 years, shows among others «The Treasury of Bergen», the internationally acknowledged silver wear from The Bergen Goldsmith Association, founded in 1568. The exquisite violin of the virtuoso Ole Bull, from 1562, is one of the world’s oldest and most beautiful violins. The Angel’s head is carved by the famous renaissance artist Benvenuto Cellini. «Sit!» Gerhard Munthes saga chair. The chair is one of the many chairs that shows the chairs development and changes during 300 years. The exhibition covers approx. 2000 items that represents all the techniques and materials of the decorative art from the 16 th century till today. Glass, ceramics, porcelain, metal works, fashion, textiles, furniture and carving over a 500 year period. The China Collection is Northern Europe’s largest of Buddhist sculptures in marble and was donated by the general J. W. N. Munthe (1864-1935), who was a passionate collector of Chinese art. Also porcelain, jade, bronze, textile and paintings. Changing exhibitions of arts, craft, and design.

Guided tours on request. There is a cafe at the ground floor at the museum.
